Sande Corbett is a jewelry artist in Portland, Oregon. She first fell in love with jewelry as a small child in Mexico, where she saw all the other little girls wearing tiny studs in their tiny pierced earlobes. |
Descended from California gold miners and a Missouri watchmaker, Sande considers herself genetically predisposed to working with metal and gemstones, although it took her more than 40 years to realize it. |
After a career path that zig-zagged through broadcasting, environmental education, and accounting, Sande turned her attention to jewelry in 2003. A welding workshop led her to metalsmithing classes, and soon her basement was converted into a jewelry studio. |
Sande's roots are in Arizona, where her maternal grandparents raised Appaloosa show horses. As a child, she lived in Mexico and Hawaii, where her fondness for all things tropical (well, except the oversized insects) was born. She has adjusted to the rainy winters in Oregon but wants to live by the ocean again someday. |
